Basingstoke Businesses benefit from Free Workshops

Local authorities throughout the UK are being encouraged to engage with small businesses and to improve opportunities for tendering and winning contracts. Although many companies do tender for these contracts, many reduce their chances of being successful through poor presentation, inappropriate information or simply fail to meet the specific requirements demanded of them.

Sponsored by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, seventy five small businesses from the Basingstoke area took part in a series of workshops designed to overcome some of the pitfalls that can be faced when tendering for public sector contracts. The training sessions provided an insight into local authority contracts and the tendering process. During the full day workshops delegates were advised on how to identify what public sector contracts exist, and were given advice on how to complete tender documents in a manner that positions their company as the best candidate for the job.

Janet Barrett Basingstoke and Deane's Procurement Manager was on hand to give delegates information and advice. Feedback from the workshops has been resoundingly positive and delegates confirmed they left the session feeling motivated and keen to grow their companies through local authority contracts they previously thought they did not have a chance of winning.

Sylvia Williams, Willclean Cleaning Services said

"The course was one of the best that I have ever attended. A tremendous amount information was covered in a short time, but with the type of presentation that Paul gives, and the patience that he shows, all subjects were made interesting and easy to follow. I have attended similar courses in the past and found that these seemed to be aimed at demonstrating the knowledge of the presenter and not aimed at passing information on. This certainly was not the case with this workshop"

The Workshop was further praised by Marie Curry of The Glass Centre, Basingstoke.

"Completely new to the public sector bidding process, I now feel confident to search, approach and submit tenders".

Basingstoke and Deane is committed to supporting greater opportunities for local companies to work more effectively with the public sector.

Janet Barrett MCIPS, Facilities Management and Procurement Manager at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said...

“The Workshops were great, it gave me a chance to talk to local small businesses and understand their challenges in working with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. I have had a lot of thanks from the attendees and would like to pass my thanks onto Protégé Management and Paul especially for making these workshops such a resounding success."
