Protégé brings together councils

Protégé Management recently facilitated a Workshop for Hampshire County Council to explore ways of that public sector procurers could work more closely with local businesses, and improve local spend.

The workshop called `linking procurement practice with economic regeneration' saw the County Council meeting with other local authorities and public organisations, such as health authorities, universities and charities, to discuss ways to make it simpler for local companies to do business with the public sector.

Putting their heads together: delegates discuss ways of improving links between local business and the public sector at the Procurement Seminar

Executive Member for Economic Development, Councillor Michael Woodhall, said: "The County Council is responsible for delivering hundreds of services across Hampshire and doing so generates millions of pounds worth of business. Our aim is to break down the barriers that can stop local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) from accessing these business opportunities.

"By collaborating with other public sector organisations and sharing best practice the County Council aims to come up with a clear set of procedures that will enable local companies to reap the benefits of working with the public sector. Supporting the local economy this way helps increase jobs and encourages other businesses to base themselves in Hampshire, which helps further growth."
